Shoe last instep wedge, Canterbury, NH
Description
Wood block cut to form the wedge of a scoop block last. The base of the wedge is flat and comes to an obtuse angle at the half-circle face. At the center of the face there is a rectangular metal pin protruding which secured the wedge to the last. The top of the wedge is convex and tapers toward the opposite end. The top is rounded over and slopes downward in a concave line where it meets the base creating a thin edge. At the center of the edge there is a small cut-out, made larger from pieces having broken off. Below the top there is a through-hole 5/16" in diameter.
