Description

"Shaker Buildings in New Lebanon," a wood engraving created by John Warner Barber (1798-1885), was first published in Historical Collections of the State of New York . . . with Geographical Descriptions of Every Township in the State by John Warner Barber and Henry Howe, [New York: Published for the Authors by S. Tuttle (Hitchcock & Stafford, Printers), 1841], p. 120. The illustration cataloged here is the same wood engraving reprinted in Pictorial History of the State of New York; Being a general collection of the most interesting facts,. . . of the counties, cities, and principal villages, throughout the state by John Warner Barber and Henry Howe, [Cooperstown: H. & E. Phinney, 1846], p. 78. The illustration is included in the section about Columbia County, New York (pp. 76-79). The complete text can be retrieved from the Hathi Trust at, https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/008652259. Differentiating copies of this illustration published in Pictorial History of the State of New York from those published in Historical Collection of the State of New York is very difficult without some of the surrounding text.
