Description

Six board chest. Ends, front, bottom, back and top (lid and hinge cleat) single width boards, all white pine (Pinus strobus). Hand-forged nails, forged iron butt hinges, surface mounted on lid, mortise for a half-mortise lock. Front corners dovetailed, back butted and nailed to ends. Top, front, and front half of proper left end painted red. Rest of chest unfinished. Various notations, mostly illegible, written in chalk on the inside of the lid.
