Shoe last
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a left shoe with a removable instep wedge. The last has a square toe. After the toe cap the wedge is set, having been cut from the last. The instep slopes upward, rounds off at its height and is then cut concavely, rejoining the last at the top. Underneath the highest point of the wedge is a through-hole. The wedge is secured to the last by a metal nail on the wedge. Below the top of the last there is a through-hole. From the top the heel curve extends to the seat. The seat sides are curved to form the waist before growing to the widest point at the last joints then tapering to form the toe. Along the outside edge of the seat are nail holes, with the majority concentrated around the heel.
