Last, Shoe
Shoe last, North Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Wood block cut in the form of a left shoe with a removable instep wedge. The last has a square toe. Along the edge of the last, from the toe to the heel, are four pieces of leather attached. The piece of leather on the toe covers almost all of the toe cap. The toe cap finishes at the joint where the instep wedge begins. The last slopes upward and rounds off at the top. Underneath the top is a through-hole with a piece of twine looped through and around the bottom of the last. The wedge is then cut in a concave line which flows into the top of the bottom portion of the last. Below the top of the last, there is a through-hole. From the top, the heel curve extends to the seat. The seat sides are curved to form the waist before growing to the widest point at the last joints then tapering to form the toe.
