Description

A rather crudely made cherry box (a). Components butted and nailed, with an open front to accept drawer stands on four spherical turned cherry feet. In the center of the top of this box, a between-centers turned cherry standard is tenoned into a second mortise. The top of the standard is tenoned into a round mortise in the underside of a face-turned disk with six holes around rim for brass wire spool spindles and a cup centered in top for a round pincushion covered with a floral print fabric (pink and pink/blue flowers with green leaves on a tan background). Drawer (b) is butted and nailed (front with turned knob of cherry; sides and bottom probably willow, back possibly aspen. Three original spool spindles of brass wire and turned cherry heads remain. Other three spindles are cut down glass-headed glass hat pins with thick brown paint glopped on them.
