Description

Cast iron plate, 1/4" thick. Tapered oval shape in plane with six legs on underside that fit into mortises in a piece of birch similarly shaped but 13/16" thick. The iron is held to the cherry base by four wood screws. At the narrower end of the iron plate, a trowel-shaped plate with a tang protruding is riveted to the underside of the iron plate. Between-centers turned birch handle with an iron ferrule driven onto the tang and the tang end clinched over the handle end.
