1831-1875

Object ID:
1993.1.18a,b
Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Description

Maple box (a) and lid (b) rims, white pine headers, and swallow-tails secured with copper tacks (five on the box, one on the lid, all pointing to the right). Headers held by copper points. The maple used for the box is fairly curly, and the curl pattern indicates red maple. Exterior painted yellow; sides and lid exterior varnished over. Interior unfinished.

Notes

This box bears several characteristics of Mount Lebanon boxes, such as a pencil line along the swallowtail nails, and marks of a rotary planer on the rims. The swallowtails appear to have been marked with template 1952.5737.1 in the museum's collection.
