Bucket
Pail painted yellow and white, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Coopered bucket (a) with pine staves and bottom, iron or steel hoops, bail attachment escutcheons and wire bail with turned birch handle. Lid (b). exterior painted yellow, interior painted white but in pail, the white paint has been stained orange.
Notes
The pail has been attributed to Mount Lebanon because it was likely acquired from there, but is more likely to have been made in Canterbury or Enfield, NH, based on the diamond-shaped bail plate which is characteristic of New Hampshire Shaker examples.
