Walker of maple stained light brown, attributed to the South Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
1875-1900
Description
Walker consisting of four turned maple posts at corners and six turned maple stretchers mortised and tenoned into posts to form rectangle with one open end. Posts are 1 1/4" diameter cylinders except below bottom side stretchers, which taper to 1" diameter at feet. Stretchers are 7/8" diameters in centers tapering to 11/16" diameters at shoulders of 9/16" diameter tenons.
Notes
The legs are the same diameter, and the tops of the legs are rounded in the same manner, as the front posts of armless chairs made at the South Family, Mount Lebanon chair factory from 1875-1900, strongly suggesting it was made and used there.
