Table, Pedestal

Description

Pedestal table with a tripod foot arrangement. The pedestal is a rather heavy, bottle-shaped between-centers turning of walnut and the three walnut feet are set into the pedestal base with sliding dovetails. The pedestal top apparently was turned with a round stub tenon which is mortised through an oak cleat. This cleat is tapered in thickness from other sides of center to the ends and all edges are chamfered. This cleat is screwed (ten screws) to the underside of the oval top of poplar (two boards). The butt joint in the top is reinforced by two butterfly insets of unidentifiable wood.
