1820-1845
Description
Shaker made foot lathe. Ways of lathe and foot treadle are 8'. Overhead metal flywheel (34 1/2" in diameter) and drive pulley assembly are connected by rods to both ends of treadle. Two wooden cone pulleys for regulating the speed are now mounted to the wall. The lathe is set up for spindle turning and the casting pattern for the tail stock is in the museum collection. Left side legs are recent additions; left end of ways probably attached to another bench. 5 9/16" x 1 1/8" x 94 5/8" board at back and boards which support it were probably attached by museum for exhibition purposes to support treadle foot which originally attached to beam in building.
