Description
Commercially-made scythe, snath, and cradle. Ash cradle components and between-centers turned handle. Four ash cradle tines steam-bent to the arc of the steel scythe. Handle attaches to snath with ring bolt and nut fitting; scythe held to the snath by a cast iron loop with a bolt and nail wedging the scythe tang tight in the loop. Cradle braces pinned in mortises with wire nails. The handle measures 55", and the scythe blade measures 44 1/2", with the four wooden tines each getting progressively 1 3/4" to 2" shorter.
