Description

Woven basket, rectangular base to oval rim with slightly slanted sides and arched handle that rises 3" above basket. Two lids hinged at center, made of lightweight material (possibly rattan). Base of wide, vertical splints with horizontal, thin, fine weaving.

Notes

The basket was purchased by the donors' grandmother, Mrs. Penelope B. (Andrews) Babcock (1830-1916), in 1847. She and her husband, William Henry Babcock moved from Brooklyn, NY, to Lebanon Springs sometime after their marriage and lived there until about 1892.
