Pulley, Mount Lebanon, NY

Object ID:
1950.1204.1
Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Description

A two-sheave block (fixed pulley of block and tackle) with ash [?] pulley housing (two faces, a center divider, and four spaces riveted together), two pulley wheels turned with a rope groove in their edges (block is suspended in air and inaccessible for wood identification) Some sort of shaft (probably iron) through the center of the block serves as an axle for the pulleys but its ends are hidden by the whipped rope hanger. At the top the whipped rope surrounds a metal thimble which hangs in the eye of a forged iron hook and eye which allows the block to be hung.

Notes

The block and tackle is held together as a working unit by a length of approximately 13/16" diameter rope.
