Shovel
Shaving fork, Canterbury, NH
Description
Shaving fork with five ash tines sawn to a gentile arc and pointed bottom end which is sheathed in sheet metal secured with rivets. The center tine continues aboves the fork, serving as a handle shaft. This shaft is mortised through a carved cherry dowel, forming a T-handle. The fork tines are spaced laterally by a cherry rail riveted to the upper side of the tines at the top of the fork. The fork is reinforced by two cherry boards extending laterally from edge to edge. These two boards are mortised through each tine and pinned with oak pegs.
