Chest
Storage chest painted dark red
Description
Small white pine chest (a) with [til?] at proper right end and hinged lid. Iron butt hinges, half-mortise lock, and key (b). Butt joints secured with nails (?) countersunk and filled over. Chest exterior, except bottom, painted dark red.
Notes
Tack or nail holes on edges of lid imply that something surrounded lid that is no longer extant. Also, unpainted strip at top of chest ends seems to indicate attachments to the undersides of lid ends but these seem to have been lost. Tack holes on both ends and top surface of lid indicate that handles, probably leather straps, were attached there at one time.
