Smith-forged iron or steel blade with eye formed by splitting bar into two halves, wrapping these halves around a cylindrical form and hammer welding the scarf to form a ring. A carved maple handle is fitted to the eye and secured with three iron or steel wedges (one wedge is made from an old file).
