Oval box form used by Brother William Perkins, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Oval box form. Block of white pine cut to elliptical shape with one edge notched. Later a 2 1/4" wide strip of sheet metal nailed around outside of ellipse covering notch.
Notes
Used to bend steamed veneer box bands to elliptical shapes. Since there are no marks in the sheet metal indicating where the swallow tails were clinch-tucked, the boxes bent on these forms may have been ones whose swallow tails were glued before tacking.
