Casting pattern for a gear, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Gear pattern of four pieces of wood - three probably pine, one hardwood. The gear itself has forty rounded teeth or cogs and is laminated of two pieces of wood. Screwed to this assembly is a 1/4" thick pine disk whose diameter equals that of the outsides of the gear teeth. This disk is flat and has two holes drilled through it near the center which appear not to be original to the pattern. The opposite side has a hub lathe-turned from some hardwood inserted into the two layers of pine with the gear teeth. This hub has an octagonal hole in its center.
