Shovel cut and carved from a single piece of hard pine. Bottom edge of blade sheathed in forged iron nailed and tacked to edges, front, and back. Just above the edge extensions of the wrought iron sheath are sheet metal pieces folded over edge and nailed to either side of blade as well as the edge. "D" handle reinforced with a rivet through the rounded grip edge to edge and another below the "D"-opening edge to edge.
