Native American-made black ash splint basket and lid, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Rectangular basket (a) with lid (b) of black ash splint. Uprights are 1 3/8" and weavers are mostly 1 1/8" w aside from two weavers at top which are 1/2" w. Uprights continue downwards to create plain, open weave base. Split rim with single lashing. Faded black stamps 1" in diameter circles with lines bisecting circle. The lid (b) is 2" h, side uprights continue upwards to form filled plain weave top. Rim has single lashing.
