Oval box form, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Oval box form. Finely made white pine elliptical mold laminated of three pieces and stained and varnished. Mold has slight relieve of point where veneer band wrap began. Two vertical channels cut into side where anvil was. Then channel through relieve was partially filled by nailing in a strip of white pine. Later another strip of pine was screwed on over the nailed-in strip, completely filling the channel. A hole was drilled through mold near center and a carriage bolt inserted which is secured by a wing nut and washer. The head of the carriage bolt is recessed into an elliptical cavity 1 1/8" deep.
Notes
One of a group of oval box forms made or modified to be bolted to a platform, allowing the form to be turned as the veneer band is wrapped around it.
