Black ash splint basket inscribed "J. Slingerland", Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Black ash splint, square bottom to round rim basket with fixed handle. Handle is bonnet-shaped, double-notched, and comes down on the inside. Split rim with double lashing. Plain weave open bottom. Cat's-head style.
Notes
The inscription "J. Slingerland" is presumed to refer to Brother Joseph Slingerland, who lived at Mount Lebanon from 1854-1888.
