Table, Side
Side table with bird's eye, tiger and curly maple, Enfield, NH
ca. 1840
Description
Side table with three drawers, two in one end, one in other, and between-centers turned legs. Combination of bird's eye (legs, drawer fronts), tiger stripe (aprons), and curly, hard maple (top). Between-centers turned cherry knobs, one per drawer. Drawers dovetailed, legs mortised and tenoned to rails and aprons. Joints are pinned. White pine secondary. Yellow poplar drawer bottoms. Natural finish.
Notes
Acquired from the Canterbury, NH Shakers, but attributed to Enfield due to its having collars at the section where the round legs meet the square upper portions, a characteristic of Enfield pieces.
