Description

Case of ten drawers. Top four half width, bottom six full width. Case and drawers of white pine except for drawers 1-3 have basswood ends and backs and drawer 4 which has basswood ends. Face-turned walnut knobs, tapped with 1/2" threaded hickory tenons inserted. Holes in drawer fronts tapped as well. Stained or washed red.

Notes

Believed to have been made by the same cabinetmaker as chest of drawers 1950.554.1, given the similarities in joinery and materials used.

Shane Rothe

Curatorial Associate

Shane Rothe (they/them) joined Shaker Museum in July 2023, working with independent curator Maggie Taft on an exhibition for the new museum space in Chatham. Shane is an artist as well as a curator and continues to create in the mediums of painting, sculpture, writing, and performance. Shane holds a BFA from CalArts and an MA in art history and curatorial studies from the University of Chicago.
