An iron planting dibble consisting of a forged iron point, socketed at the top to accept a turned maple handle. A forged stirrup-like attachment is fastened to the socket and handle by means of a stud that is peened over a copper washer on the socket side opposite the step of the stirrup. The top of the stirrup fixture is attached to the handle with a flat-head wood screw.
