Pen wiper doll, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Doll with white porcelain head and feet; painted face and painted yellow hair. Arms are very lightweight and are attached to the should with silver springs. The doll's dress fans out in alternate blue and orange folded felt material. Decorative belt of orange ribbons sits on the dolls waist and ties at its rear. The doll has a lace cape that covers top part of body and most of its arms.
Notes
These dolls were sold in the Shaker store. The skirt, which was made of scraps left over from cloaks made by the Mount Lebanon sisters, was used to wipe excess ink from pens.
