Neckerchief

Linen neckerchief, Mount Lebanon, NY

Object ID:
1950.3980.1
Community:
New York, Mount Lebanon
Description

Irregular square linen. 1/4" border of ten fine white lines.

Notes

Identification tentative. It is too large to be a handkerchief, and is more of a size of a woman's neckerchief, but it is inscribed with a man's name. There is no record of a Noah Hewitt having lived at the Mount Lebanon Shaker community, but there were two sisters named Susan and Catherine Hewitt who lived at the Second Family in 1860; perhaps he was the father or a relative of one or both of them.
