Mold, Basket Weaving
Box form, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
A break-down basket mold of white pine consisting of two ends originally turned to a pear shape between centers, cut in half and the sawn faces worked to incorporate a tapered width-wise dovetail dado in each and a center rectangular piece of pine with tapered dovetails nailed to either face. A handle/support is between centers turned at the bottom of this center section. A forged iron nail or screw is driven into the bottom of each of the removable pieces so that these pieces can be hammered off the center without marring the wood.
