Measure of chestnut and pine
Description
Round measure with a pine bottom header, surrounded by a steam-bent chestnut side band secured by a vertical row of 16 iron tacks at the end of the band and four others, two above and two below. Inside there are four more tacks arranged vertically along ending of inner portion of band. The band is fastened to the bottom with iron brads. Perimeter of bottom inside is stained dark. Also dark halos around iron tacks and brads where elemental iron has reacted with tannin in the wood to create the characteristic blue-black stain.
