Description
Body for a poplarware box of a soft, diffuse-porous hardwood, possibly aspen (Populus tremuloides). Flared ends and sides secured with glued, lock-joints. Bottom held by tiny iron nails through bottoms of sides. Top rim glued and tacked with copper tacks to top of sides and ends.
Notes
Body of poplarware "casket" box. The exterior would be covered with woven poplar splint "fabric" and the interior with satin or similar cloth. The box was given to the museum by Brother Delmer Wilson who probably added the notation that it was made by Elder William Dumont.
