Description

Well-constructed box of white pine (Pinus strobus). Joints butted and nailed. Tops of corners reinforced with sheet metal wrapped around corner and nailed or tacked with iron fasteners. Remnants of leather handles are extant on sides. No lid nor any evidence of one.

Notes

Scarring of the top edges and the inside of the box suggest that this box may have been used to store kindling or small wood pieces for wood stoves.
