Description

Pulley on a 26" length of iron shaft, 1 3/4" in diameter, stepped down at either end. Pulley has a cast iron frame (hub, spokes, and rim). Nineteen white pine (Pinus strobus) blocks (staves) are bolted to the iron rim, barrel stave fashion. The stave ends are hooped with iron bands. Traces of orange paint are visible on the outside of the stave. An additional cast iron hub with stubs of spokes that have been broken off is secured to the shaft just outside one end of the wood pulley surface.

Notes

This pulley was found in the tail-race outside the sawmill of the Mount Lebanon Church Family in 1964.
