U-shaped poplarware box handle. A length of ash (Fraxinus americana) 3/64" x 7/64" is bent into a 3/16" diameter loop at each end and then wrapped in very thin ash (?) veneer.
On a visit to the Shaker Museum in 1956, Eldress Gertrude Soule identified such handles as having been used on "biform" poplarware boxes.
