Description

(a) Hatchel with birch (Betula spp.) base fastened together with hand-wrought iron nails. This base supports a hatchel, an array of 124 steel needles driven through the top portion of the base, through a rectangle of sheet metal secured with iron tacks. The needles extend about 2 7/8" above the surface of the base. (b) Lid of white pine (Pinus strobus) covers the exposed needles when not in use. No finish.
