Description

(.1) Hydrometer consisting of an evaucated glass tube (upper section 11/32" in diameter, lower section 23/32" diameter), terminating at bottom with a bulbous mercury reservoir for a built in mercury-in-glass thermometer and a sealed section filled with lead shot. Secured in side the top tube section is a hand-printed paper scale for "Proof" or "Tralle". Inside the larger diameter section below are temperature scales for Farenheit, three proof scales and alcohol content. (.2a,b) Case for hydrometer. Between-centers turned cylinder (a) of maple (Acer spp.) with a smaller open cylinder inserted into the open top for the lid (b) to fit over. Both the case (a) and the lid (b) have one solid end. (.3) Sheet metal cylinder with an open top with a wire-rolled edge, a crimped and soldered joint holding the cylinder to shape, a solid cap soldered over the bottom, and a folded, arcuate handle soldered to the crimped joint. This was used to hold a liquid sample for the hydrometer.
