The photograph shows Samuel Shumway, a carpenter from Lebanon Springs, NY, seated to Mr. Foot's proper right. Samuel was a carpenter who was the son of Paul Shumway and grandson of Abner Shumway of Lebanon Springs, all of whom were carpenters. The Shumway family members are often mentioned in Shaker journals as doing carpentry and cabinet work for various Shaker families at Mount Lebanon.
