Description

Stereographic photograph of the interior of the school room of the Church Family Schoolhouse at Canterbury, New Hampshire. The stereograph is part of a series published by H. A. Kimball, Concord, New Hampshire, titled "Shaker Village, Canterbury, N. H." The series as enumerated on the back of the card included 22 views of which this is identified as number 17. The image shows a teachers' desk and a commercially made office chair, commercially made student desks, a small stand on which a globe is kept, and a long spindle-backed bench with arms. On the walls are mounted maps and what appear to be anatomical charts. The card has two separate images mounted side by side to create a stereographic pair. The tops of the photographs are cut in the traditional curve found on cards of this period.
