T-handled 1" diameter shell auger of forged steel. Shank is square with chamfered arrises and, apparently to make the auger longer, the shaft was scarfed and welded to a supplemental forged shaft. The tang at top is inserted through a between-centers turned 1 1/8" diameter cylinder of hickory, the handle. The tang is clinched in the handle top.
