Rail, Peg
Section of peg rail, Hancock, MA
Description
Section of peg rail originally with fourteen pegs, tenons and mortises threaded, arrises left square. Rail is of white pine, pegs are turned from a variety of woods: of the remaining eleven pegs, eight are cherry, two are maple, and one is beech. Position of pegs was apparently laid out by eye because the pegs do not line up along the rail center line. Rail and original pegs painted yellow. Some replacement pegs are red and some are natural.
