Screw die, Church Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
A die for cutting threads on 3/4" diameter rod consisting of a 3/4" x 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" steel block with threads cut into the ends of four spurs emanating from the sinuses of the four clearance holes ( the "leaves" of the clover leaf) and a collar of 1/4" iron bar stock wrapped around the steel block, secured by a hammer welded scarf joint, and shrunk fit to steel by assembling with the iron forge hot, which trapped the steel block as it cooled and contracted.
