Commercially made food chopper, North Family, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
A wheel powered food chopper. The chopper is operated by two gears that are turned by a cast iron crank arm with a wooden handle. The arms are held in place by two stanchions. The stanchions also include and u-shaped piece which the gears propel. Attached to this is an arm which moves up and down moving the chopping blade up and down as it does. The blade is secured to the machine arms by two screws and is encased by a sheet metal basin with rolled edges. The blade has an extension which secures the blade to a central wooden dowel set in a larger wooden sphere as a stop for the blade. The base is a circular wooden board. Around the bottom exterior of the basin is a cast iron lip with a notched bottom to be propelled by a gear rotation. The chopper is secured to a rectangular wooden board with four feet, painted black.
