Bedspring
Metal bedspring, Mount Lebanon, NY
ca. 1873
Description
Metal bed springs in a wooden frame. The springs are secured to four wooden planks, running length-wise, which are held in place by three shorter perpendicular cross planks. The springs are steel. Atop each spring is a rectangular piece of wood. These pieces of wood are secured to criss-crossing thin pieces of wood with metal staples at each intersection. The thin criss-crossing pieces are in eight sets of three, which run width-wise, and four pairs running length-wise.
