Description

Carpenter's mallet with head of ash or hickory, and a turned hickory handle through tenoned in the head. Since the tenon is unwedged and squeezed to an oval shape, the mallet must have been assembled when the head was green and the tenon dry, yielding the incredible shrinking mortise.
