T-handled taper auger with a turned hickory handle and a forged tapered auger which tapers from 1 1/8" to 2 1/4". Nose of taper is unsharpened. The taper extends about 16 1/2" to a shank octagonal at top of auger merging to square (5/8" on a side) just below handle. A flattened tang is inserted into a mortise in the handle. At the top of the handle, a square cross-section segment of the shank is somehow mushroomed over an iron washer to hold the handle onto the tang.
