Rope bed, Mount Lebanon, NY
Description
Components from a diassembled rope bed of maple. There are four bed posts, two tall (c,d) and two short (e,f). The bed posts each have two rectangular cut-outs 2 15/16" h x 11/16" w on adjacent sides. The other two adjacent sides have bolt holes 7/8" in diameter. The short posts have a 1" h simple cylindrical finial atop a rectangular shaft with chamfer edges on a rounded leg with a circular cross section. The taller bed posts are cylindrical with a rectangular section near center with chamfer edges. All legs are cut down to a smaller diameter to allow for casters. The casters are cast iron with an open circular top to fit around the bedposts. The caster has two arms which sandwich the wooden wheels. Through the center of the wheel is a steel pin which secures the wheel to the caster. The short rails (a,b) have notched ends to join with the bedposts. Along the top of the rails are five turned knobs to secure rope around. The pieces of the bed frame have been stained and clear coated.
