Description

Rectangular stained and varnished wooden box with hinged lid. The front face of the box has a key hole at the center. The face is balanced with a screw and brass washer on the left side of the face and the handle set into a brass washer on the right side of the face. The handle has a brass arm and a turned wood knob. The proper left side has a small wooden knob and two brass socket screws. The proper right side is blank. On the hinged side of the box are two screws set into brass washers and three steel screws between them of varying sizes. There is a through hole near the bottom edge which has a metal rod in it. Inside there is a locking mechanism which is brass in the box, but steel on top. There is a paper label describing the machine glued into the recessed portion of the lid. Contained within the box itself is a machine mechanism comprises a large u-magnet; two wooden rollers, bracketed together, and covered with a single piece of golden velvet; and a brass gear with large and small through holes and a grooved edge on a steel rod turned by the exterior handle. The interior of the box is lined in a red-patterned paper, with coral encased in criss-crossing diagonal lines. Stored inside are two sheet-metal cylinders with rolled rims. Attached to the end of each cylinder is a thread-wrapped wire attached.
