Description

Shaker-made artifact fragment of maple consisting of a roller with integral shaft turned as a unit. A round tenon on one end of the shaft is inserted through a round mortise in one end of a crank and pinned in place. This crank, also turned but with flattened sides, has another round mortise at the other end into which is glued the tenon on a turned handle. The cranked end of the roller is tapered and a small cut or forged nail is driven into the surface of the taper.
