Cupboard over chest over cupboard, Hancock, MA
Description
High chest of drawers with a cupboard above and below. The top of the piece has a crown molding. The upper cupboard has a mortise jointed raised panel door, reinforced by two wooden pegs at each corner. Below center on the left side of the door is a small turned-wood knob. On the face of the cupboard there is a rectangular piece of wood which holds the cupboard door closed when turned. The side edge of the door above the knob and the back of the door below the knob have been cut away for a previous locking mechanism. Inside the cupboard is a single shelf which bisects the cupboard. Below the cupboard are four graduated dovetail-jointed drawers. The drawers have rounded edges and two turned-wood knobs each. At the top center of the top drawer there is a steel lock mechanism. Below the bottom drawer is a second cupboard section, shorter than the upper cupboard. A little less than half-way down the raised panel door is a turned-wood knob. To the left of the knob on the face of the cupboard there is a small rectangular piece, that when turned will hold the cupboard door closed. Inside the cupboard there is a shelf at about center. Natural finish on exterior.
Notes
